As we transition from Mary Drastal’s role as President of Heartland Art Club, we take a moment to reflect on her incredible leadership and tireless dedication over the past five years. Mary has truly been the heart of Heartland, guiding us with unwavering commitment through challenges and achievements alike. We are excited to welcome her to her role on the Education Committee, where her passion will continue to inspire and enrich our community.

During her tenure, Heartland Art Club flourished, growing our membership to over 160 members. She consistently responded to member inquiries with patience, remaining connected to the community. Mary played a pivotal role in expanding our Art Education program, bringing in nationally known, award-winning instructors, and she helped launch the Pre-AP High School Workshop, opening doors for the next generation of artists.

Through the difficult years of COVID and its aftermath, when many other organizations struggled, Mary’s guidance ensured that Heartland Art Club not only survived, but thrived, emerging stronger than ever.

In addition to hosting and MC’ing countless membership and juried shows, Mary cultivated meaningful relationships within the local art community, enhancing Heartland Art Club’s presence in the representational art world. We are thrilled to have her remain on the board as she shifts her focus to the Education Committee, where she will continue making a meaningful impact through her work with Heartland.

Although it is a purely volunteer position, Mary has given it the commitment and time of a full-time paid role, demonstrating her passion and unwavering dedication to the success of the club.

We are immensely grateful for her leadership, and Mary will continue to hold a special place (and continued presence) at Heartland Art Club. Her impact on this organization and the relationships she’s nurtured with members, patrons, and educators alike will be felt for years to come.

With gratitude,

Board Members of the Heartland Art Club
Lisa Ober, Jennifer Suits, Lyle Seddon, Brian Anderson, Sarah Ball, Shawn Cornell, Kara Dicker, Dan Fishback, Becky Lance, Stacey McAdams, Leslie Morse, Steve Morris, Lisa Perez, Anne Skelton, and Susan Wehrman
