Garry was a cornerstone of the St Louis art community. May his memory forever be a blessing. The following words are written by Diane:

“It is with a sad heart that I tell you that Garry McMichael made his transition on Saturday, June 4.  Cancer won, and he passed away peacefully in his home.

Garry has been a photographer for sixty years, beginning in a studio in Springfield, MO with Paul Mignard and later in St. Louis.  His commercial clients are many, including former Memco Barge Co.  Along with photographs, he also wrote for numerous magazines including Organic Gardening, Bicycling Magazine and National Geographic.  He had a way with words!

He had been the past president of Gateway Pastel Artists where he introduced his method of shaving the pastel stick to make snow, rain and various other elements.

Within the organization Greater St. Louis Art Association, Garry helped raise awareness of art, painting, photography and much more, mentoring many artists.  Always willing to help, promote and establish the artistic community, he touched many lives.  He gave many workshops in his gallery/studio, always helping artists find their way into the art world.  His own art featured nature, especially rocks, stacking rocks and cairns.  Many galleries and shows featured his work.  In fact, currently two St. Louis exhibits feature some of his work.

Indeed, he and his knowledge of the artist workings will missed by many.  Garry touched and influenced numerous artists throughout the community, state, and national level.  Missed by many, Garry’s legacy will endure and brighten the community.”
