A Heartland Art Club National Juried Exhibition

Selected artists will be featured in the Galleries at Heartland Art Club in beautiful and busy Kirkwood, Missouri, as well as online at Heartlandartclub.org from August 16 – October 14, 2023. 

Show Juror and Judge, Patricia Watwood will award $3,000 for First Place, $2,000 for Second Place, $1,000 for third Place, four Honorable Mention Awards at $500 each, $1000 for the David Cornell Composition Award, and various merchandise awards. Certificates of Recognition will be sent to every juried artist who participates the exhibit.

Important Dates

  • Notification of Accepted Works: June 30, 2023

  • Juried Handling Fee Due: July 9, 2023

  • Artwork Receipt Deadline: August 5, 2023 with no exceptions

  • Exhibit Dates: August 16, 2023- October 14, 2023

  • Public Opening Reception: August 18, 2023 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.

  • Opening Reception Location: Heartland Art Club

  • Return of Unsold Artwork/Artwork Retrieval: October 18, 2023 – October 21, 2023

Sales/Other Fees

  • Shipping to Heartland Art Club and return of artwork is the responsibility of the artist (see Shipping category below for details on shipping).

  • There is a one-time packing, handling, inspecting, and storage fee of $30 for shipped artwork.

  • Hand-delivered/retrieved artwork will not incur a fee. 

  • Selected juried artworks must be offered for sale through Heartland Art Club.

  • Gallery commission is 35% of the total sale for non-member artists.

  • Gallery commission is 25% of the total sale for member artists.

  • The gallery withholds an additional 3% for sales processed by credit or debit cards.

  • You are not required to be a member of Heartland Art Club, but if you wish to consider joining ($60 annually for general members) you may do so here: https://heartlandartclub.org/become-a-member

  • US residents who receive $600 or more in awards and/or sales will be required to complete a Form W-9 and will receive a Form 1099 by the end of January, 2024.

  • Artwork sold during during the show must remain on display at the gallery until the final exhibition date unless other arrangements are made by the Gallery Team in order to facilitate a sale.

Size Requirements for Artwork

Maximum Dimensions:

  • 2 -dimensional works no larger than 48 inches (outside) in either direction INCLUDING framing

  • 3 -dimensional works no larger than 24 inches (height, width, or depth) with a weight of no more than 40 pounds

Presentation and Framing Requirements

  • Two-dimensional artwork must be framed in a professional manner using D-rings and wire. NO SAWTOOTH HANGERS accepted.

  • Flat panel or gallery-wrapped canvases must have finished edges and be at least 1.5” deep.

  • Frames must be stable, undamaged, and appropriate for a quality gallery exhibit. Artwork that does not meet these requirements will be disqualified and returned at the artist’s expense.

  • Pastel, charcoal, or similar artwork that is typically framed behind glass will be accepted but please keep in mind the risk to ship it belongs to the artist and HAC will not be held responsible for glass breakage.

  • Artwork must be ready to hang.

  • Accidents happen, and if they are easily remedied the gallery will make every effort to do so. Staff will work with the artist should this occur.

Selected Works

  • The artwork selected (including the medium used) and the number of works will depend solely on the juror from the entries received. The quality of the works selected is of primary importance. The decisions made are final.

  • Artwork must be the same as the original image entered. No substitutions. After selection, registration cannot be changed, so please be very careful with contact information, price, title of artwork, and entry size.

  • Artists whose works are selected must accept or decline invitation and agree to $30 handling fee (if shipping artwork) by July 10, 2023.

  • Lack of response to the invitation will be treated as declined.

Notification/Invitation

  • Notification of jury results will be sent to all artists June 30, 2023.

Shipping/Delivery of Artwork

  • Receiving period is July 26 through August 5, 2023. 

  • Artists are responsible for all shipping and insurance fees. Artists who are selected will be required to pay for shipping to HAC and for return of unsold work.

  • Artists must include a pre-paid return shipping label with artwork. Further instructions will be provided with invitation.

  • Selected artists who ship their artwork to the gallery must pay the $30 packing, handling, inspection, and hanging fee.

  • Selected artists who live within drop-off/retrieval distance may do so and are NOT required to pay the $30 handling fee.

  • Awards will be announced at the Opening Reception on August 18, 2023. Efforts will be made to immediately notify the winners of the competition.

About Heartland Art Club

Heartland Art Club supports and encourages the creation of quality, representational fine art through education, exhibits, and engagement. Our goal is to elevate representational art, its disciplines, and history. Heartland Art Club is a 501(c)3 organization incorporated in the state of Missouri. The Club has a permanent office and exhibit space in Kirkwood, Missouri, called The Galleries at Heartland Art Club.

We have plenty of room! There are 10 separate gallery rooms at The Galleries at Heartland Art Club. There are two large galleries and 8 smaller rooms to discover amazing art!

Agreement/Terms of Entry

  • You understand selected artwork and awards are based on your submitted digital images.

  • You agree to ship your artwork if selected by the juror so as not to deprive another artist of an opportunity.

  • You agree to comply with the terms outlined in this prospectus.

  • You understand you do NOT need to be a member of Heartland Art Club to participate in the jurying process or to participate in the exhibit if selected by the juror but we would love to have you join HAC.

  • You recognize Heartland Art Club reserves the right to disqualify artwork that does not meet the requirements listed in this prospectus.

  • You certify you hold the copyright to the artwork submitted.

  • You grant permission to Heartland Art Club and The Galleries at Heartland Art Club to share your name and images of your artwork to promote the exhibit, display the online catalog, and promote sales on the Heartland Art Club website as well as on social media.

  • You recognize the juror/judge decision is final.

  • You agree Heartland Art Club is not responsible for damage or loss, whatever the cause.
