Heartland Art Club is set to host a new exhibition in the gallery in May that will feature works from artists who are creating exciting new work in the ever-growing art movement of printmaking. IMPRESSIVE: Heartland Art Club’s Print Invitational 2024 is an exhibition that will feature the exceptional work of a select group of 8-to-10 talented print makers who specialize in a variety of printmaking processes. From traditional techniques such as woodcut and etching to modern methods like screen printing, the diversity in styles and approaches is sure to make this invitational a must-see for both art lovers and art makers alike.

Some printmaking processes are intricate and complex. There is the meticulous craft of carving into wood or metal, the delicate inking of a dry-point plate, the precise alignment of screens – each step requiring skill, patience, and creativity. Other printmaking processes are spontaneous and expressive, as with the monotype or a collagraph, where surprise is part of the fun.

Printmakers commonly refer to the act of printmaking as “making multiples.” One of the advantages of making multiples is that the cost is less per print, and the lower cost makes it easier for art enthusiast to buy an artist’s work. It’s important to note, though, that in the printmaking world a print is considered an original work of art.

That’s right. In the world of printmaking, each print is an original. That’s because even the times where the printmaker is trying to make all the prints identical, say in an edition, there are always differences in each hand-made print. Then again, sometimes the printmaker makes each print drastically different by intent. Each hand-made print is always an original work of art.

IMPRESSIVE is not just a clever title for the show; it embodies the feeling visitors are bound to experience when they witness these prints up close. The depth of an aquatint, the boldness of a woodcut, the intricacy of a dry-point – each piece in the exhibition is a testament to the artist’s dedication to their craft and their ability to leave a lasting impression on the viewer.

The show opens May 8, with the opening reception on Friday, May 10, from 6-8 p.m. It promises to be a fun time, with a selection of refreshments including wine, water, soda, and some nibblies adding to the friendly atmosphere. Visitors will have the opportunity to meet the artists, discuss their techniques, and perhaps even acquire a piece of printmaking magic to take home with them.

So, mark your calendars for this exceptional event that promises to leave you IMPRESSED. Come witness the beauty of printmaking at Heartland Art Club Gallery, where tradition meets innovation, and talent knows no bounds.
